A Geek Trapped in Los Angeles!


Then, in late 1998, I realized that my health was taking a turn for the worse. The romantic evenings with my truck were not enough to balance out the stress caused by long hours of keeping so many company's servers and networks running. I had to be familiar with too many technologies, I had to be able to pick up new hardware/software and look like an expert on the spot, I had to develop an ulcer. The last year of being on call 24 hours a day, never missing an opportunity to help a customer, and spending the majority of my free time keeping up on the latest technology was killing me!

Something had to change. I decided to cut back to one customer. In early 1999 I began working for them full-time. It was a cushy job, good pay, and only 5-7 hours a day. Just what I needed.
